anyone got a suggestion for a casual dial up plan? Client of mine goes
on the road with her laptop occasionally and needs to access emails,
only looked at a few so far but all seem to have $50 annual subs fees
and other sillyness.

Yes, but there are posters here who think $20 for AO ground pass is a
bit rich.... you get to see dozens of players....

maybe, but it seems entirely unnecessary to me. Not that hard to add a
user to the system and charge them $5 per hour or something, hardly
seems to warrant the $50 expenditure.

Some people around here seem to be using a pay-by-the-hour scheme
where you simply buy a batch of hours (usually about 20 minimum IIRC,
at about $2/hour) then you have a year to use them -- though one local
claimed their "plan" would even roll over a full year if they hadn't
used it all. Can't recall the ISPs, but maybe TPG and/or Cyberwizard.

Cheers, Phred.

what does your client do for access when they are at home/work ? If it is
ADSL or cable, they may have been provided with a dialup number to be used
for this exact purpose.

Optus has a local call number from anywhere. It also has "Net Rollover"
plans where, if you don't use all the time in a month, it gets added to the
next month. Optus dial-up is the most reliable dial-up I have seen. I would
check that out.

Perhaps a block account?

Prepaid hours, 12 months to use, top up whenever, no monthly fees,
appears to be no setup fee.

Probably the best would be Internet cafe, library or join ISP such as
CyberOne who permit its customer to access their Internet on local charges
within Aust.

Digiplus and Dodo are very low per month, $6 and $10
respectively, capped at $15 and $25 respectively.

The main advantage with dodo is that you can suspend your
account for months at a very low monthly charge and that
can end up better value for the farts that migrate to the
north for the winter every year etc in their 'mobile homes' etc.

christ there are some arrogant twats around here eh? when every other
plan has no / small joining fee, why would you be happy paying $50 for a
casual one and then a high rate per hour?

At least have the presence of mind to post some links turd.

$50pa seems very cheap, some of us pay many times that for net services.

for a secondary, occasional use service without any hours included?
There've been far better plans suggested to me thanks to helpful people
that don't feel the need to prove their self righteousness at every
opportunity. The plans not for me, I just thought I'd do a good client
the courtesy of finding a plan that wasn't pissing money down the drain
on unnecessary subscription fees.

the others that are better value perhaps? Or as soon as something makes
it under some magical dollar value, do you instantly forget about
finding good value?

Yeah, but that has hourly charges on top of that and with
dodo it can end up quite a bit cheaper than $50 a year
depending on how many months you are on the $10 rate.
