Almost completely correct! I find they try to sell you an upgrade while
they are at it.

Parts lines (in India) do the same thing. I wanted a specific part for a
server,(hot swap U320 SCSI for custom backplane) phone jockey says they
don't exist anymore and I would have to get the next model up and twice
the price.
Ended up ringing a local reseller and had one in 2 hours.

Shit, HP should outsource to that mob, the service would improve
compared to its' current OS Call Centre.

HP is in mother India. Interestingly, I haven't had a hell of a lot of
problems with HP except when needing to buy their specially designed power
supplies (not standard size). They refuse to send to my P.O. box until I
kick up a stink and they do it every time even though they have records that
they have sent there to me, before. No idea why they do that every damned
time. Takes a good 2 weeks to get the parts from them, too, making me wonder
if Aussie parts COME from India! :)

Dell customer service is in mother India too and they are a world of their
own! I have a small surname and they can never understand it yet in
Australia it is common enough. Then, when you ring them, they aren't really
all that helpful. Their Inspirons come with all the utilities needed for a
reinstall EXCEPTING the video adapter driver and the dial-up modem driver.
First time I saw this, I thought they hadn't given the guy everything he
should get so rang them. They said they don't give those out on CD as you
can download them off the net. Pissed off with that, I told her the truth,
that the user of this laptop was an architect and correct screen display is
of paramount importance and then a lie that we didn't have Internet access
and all she could do was go "oh....oh.....oh...". Lesson learned is if you
buy an Inspiron, check what drivers they don't supply and go get them and
burn to CD just in case. Makes me wonder what they think people who live in
remote areas or just don't want Internet are supposed to do for correct
screen display.

We have a local number for our server support, and don't have any probs
at all, but the techies have no end of problems with the standard HP
Helpdesk in India to the point where I've officially told them to lie
and answer with an automatic "yes" to any "have you tried" questions
rather than fuck around with a glorified janitor that has absolutely no
knowledge about the crap "advice" they're giving.

Rung them quite a few times myself and have once or twice become
frustrated to the point of saying "Fuck this, you don't have a fucking
clue, go fuck yourself", hanging up and ringing up the suppliers and
getting them to deal with the bullshit.
