This the temporary folder used by Windows itself, not the one used by
IE and other ones such as Winzip.

I have a situation where C: is low on disk space but where at the
same time there is plenty of space on drive D: partition. It would be
useful to make the pointer to the temporary folder point to somewhere on D:

Have you considered moving the swap file as well?

If your using windows XP. Right click on my computer, go down to properties
(or system in control panel), advanced tab, environment vairables. in there
you can change user variables and system variables(including temp).
Also consider shrinking/disabling system restore and trashbin and moving IE
tempfiles. also uninstall things from C and install on another drive.

hope that helps

Ahh yes! So that's where it is! I know about SET TEMP= blah blah in
the DOS based Win98/ME but not the NT based XP. Again Windows Help was
no help.

you have the answer to your question with other posts but
you may want to consider making more space available by
emptying your 'Recycling Bin' and then setting its properties
to use only 1% of the drive not the default 10%.

Also the 'Restore' option in those systems with it normally
use between 10 to 15% of the drive and can be reset to
about 250 MB for each drive - this frees up a lot of space

That is an option as is setting recycle bin to zero and
have no recycle bin function. But many people like the
basic safety feature that restore option provides, and
if you want it you can have it for a few hundred MB
instead of the few GB most default to.
