Just email the invites to yourself, then cut and paste the URL's in the
emails you receive into a message in the newsgroup.
At least that *used* to work - I'm not so sure it does now, because for
the last four I posted that way, *I* got the "welcome to gmail" messages
that usually get sent to the person who signs up. That should not have
happened.

They probably used your email address as the secondary email address
