Hi everyone.....

Hope you can help.

I have an Holden commodore and it is very muggy inside all the time, lot of
humidity and get foggy on the windows.
Even with no heater on and with 10degre on the outside it is so bloody hot
and muggy inside.
This is at anytime of the year and really get annoying in winter or at night
as we have no choice than having the air conditioning turn on and get
freezing cold.

Brought it to Holden who said after charging $150 than nothing was wrong
with the car.

So if anyone could help me I would really appreciate. They must be something
that can be done to fix that.

Relative got a brand new Toyota Camry and got the same problem....once again
Toyota say there is nothing wrong.

thanks a lot waiting for all your help.

Have you got it on "recirculate"??? If so then set it to a fresh air
setting.

hi,

Set to cold without a/c on give me very muggy and warm temperature in the
car. In my little Hyndai I dont have the same problem at all and never had
it in any other car. But for holden to say nothing wrong must be the way it
is or a mistake from there part.

Thanks.

The water is going out of the system as there is padle under the car when I
park it.

That sounds like two problems to me. "Muggy" means "humid", so it
sounds like you may have a water leak somewhere either inside the car or
inside the heater itself. This won't affect heat though, if your car's
getting hot inside then the heater valve must be stuck open too (so your
car's heater is on all the time).

I'm driving a 1yo Tarago, and the heater is very slightly on in that all
the time; you don't notice it until you get a cool-ish summer's day &
it's warm on the inside of the car & cool outside. No moisture though.

....

Why don't you just put the heater on as well as the aircon? That's what
you're supposed to do in this situation (ie. when it's humid & cold and
the window fogs up, you're supposed to turn the aircon on & the heater
on as well). The heater will heat the air more than the aircon will
cool it; if not then your heater is completely r00ted.

Toyota dealer can't find anything wrong with mine either; it could be
intermittent or even an air-hose leak on mine. Yours, with the moisture
in the car, is much worse; it's got a water leak, and it's odd that they
can't find it.

Try folding-back the carpets & also checking behind the dash, if you
don't find wet underlay or anything like that then it's just normal.
Also check in the boot, under the boot carpet. Note that it's not
necessarily as easy to pull the carpets back as I've made it sound, you
may have to remove a few plastic interior panels first. :)

From the description of the problem I wonder if you know how to
correctly operate a modern car's air conditioning system (in which
case you'd be one of many).

The system is designed so that the refrigerated air conditioner
dehumidifies the car's interior, even when the heater is operating.
In other words the two are meant to operate simultaneously.

With the air conditioner turned on (the push switch on a Commodore in
the out position) you control the temperature (from fully cold to
fully hot) with the rotary switch, and the air should be dehumidified.

Run with the air conditioner off (switch in) and the rotary switch in
anything but fully anti-clockwise and the heater will operate without
the air being dehumidified.

If the air is still being heated when the rotary switch is fully
anticlockwise then you've got a problem with the heater control valve,
otherwise everything is probably working as it should be. (Since it
freezes you with the a/c turned on there isn't likely to a problem
with the refrigeration side.)

A careful read of the instruction book might also help.

heater control valve?? I thought these were extinct... now the heater core
always has water running through it an the airflow though it is controlled.

Commodores have a vacuum actuated water valve in the engine
compartment -- or at least mine does. It's the first item I'd check
if the heater were staying on with the temperature control set to
cold.

Should have also said that the a/c will only operate when the fan is
switched on. However if you have the fan off and the rotary switch
turned clockwise then the heater will still operate -- which may be
the source of your problem.

Ok with all that but if the air cond if off and the outside temperature is
10degree why do I get 30 inside?
IT cant only be on mine ....

I guess I will run the air cond on all the time.

In the hyundai I dont have the same problem at all.....

Thanks

Do you get hot air coming out of the dash vents even with the temp
control set to cold?
If so your temp control or heater tap maybe faulty.

ah you need to turn the heater dial up a little and leave the A/C on

You can turn on the a/c and at the same time adjust the temp to a
comfortable level, you do not need to be cold for the a/c to dry the
air.

Its kind of funny how most people only use A/C with cold air. I use it
with both cold and warm at times.

Whats even funnier is they usually have an owners manual which can tell
them how to operate their car but very few read them.

Plus and in case the above is functional and drainingg to ground OUTSIDE the
car:

* Check the floorpan for missing grommets - risk of water absorbtion into
the underlay which warms quite well owing the exhaust.

* Check the Engine firewall for missing grommets too.

* Depending on the model, the windshield rubber might have developed a
leak, ditto the rear.

* Have A/C? Eitherway, set controls to FRESH and not RECIRCULATE for a
bit.
