The keys @ and " have transposed on my keyboard and I have no idea how to rectify the problem.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Keyboard > Language > Properties and then change the setting to English (British) and set this as default.
Note: That this is for Windows 98 SE, but I presume that it is similar for the Variants of Windows XP

open control panel click language and regional settings Click the dropdown box in standards and formats, set it to English (united kingdom) or your own country Change location to UK or your country. Click the advanced tab. Change "Language for non-Unicode programs" to UK
